The value of the elderly comes alive in Anderkant die stilte

Soon after South African film maker Desmond Denton completed his studies at film school, he made the film, Anderkant die Stilte. Denton, who now lives in the USA, recently announced that the movie is now available on a few USA platforms such as ROKU.

Anderkant die Stilte features legendary South African actors Andre Rossouw, Joeye De Koker, Hannetjie Smit, Annemari Blanckenberg, Johan and Lida Botha. It has won numerous awards and has an interesting storyline.

A group of unlikely characters come together to do the stage play of their lives. Under the leadership of the faithful and dreamful Piet, this group consisting of elders from the old age home needs to find a way to not only put together and act out this play, but to get past the all-controlling Sara, who runs the old age home with an iron fist.

It is a classic story of the value of each individual person and how even the most unexpected person can truly contribute to a team. Rich in its humour and old age home story details, this story touches not only the elder of our society, but indeed all to understand and appreciate those we come from and the value they indeed do have, bringing life to what is seen as old bones.

The film has been inspired by an in-depth research and study into the book of Dr Mario Denton, “the value of team.” It clearly demonstrates how important it is that each person find and play their role, in the bigger picture, to the best of their ability. Doing the research at elderly homes, the team who made the film found countless people just sitting there, with no one visiting. These were people who were once fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers and even grandfathers and mothers. With this at heart, Anderkant die Stilte was created – a story that inspires people to connect and to emphasise the value that we all play in each other’s lives.
