Ambassador Nomaindiya Mfeketo placed flowers at the base of President Carter’s statue in the Carter Presidential Library. Carter is considered as a legend for the liberties and freedom of people all over the world. She furthermore met with representative from the Jimmy Carter Centre to discuss Human Rights and Racial Justice, which was organised by Ms Susan Marx from the Human Rights unit.
The visit to the Memorial of Dr Martin Luther King at the King Centre in Atlanta was a sombre occasion where Ms Mfeketo spent time at the eternal flame which honours the sacrifices made by Dr King. There are close correlations between the history of the US Civil rights movements lead by Dr King and South Africa’s own Anti-apartheid struggle. The King museum includes features of former Statesman Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu which explains their close relationship with Dr King and other civil rights leaders.
