The SA Chamber of Commerce in the USA (SACCUSA) supported a few events held across the USA during Women’s month in August. Women’s Day is celebrated on August 9 and this year’s theme was centred around women’s socio-economic rights and empowerment. The concept of generation equality is a global campaign and links South Africa to global efforts to achieve gender equality.

Asante celebrates black women business owners

The recently held Asante Festival SA showcased black women-owned businesses that make an impact on the wine and spirit industry. Fumana International from South Africa was among the leading woman-owned industry players at the festival where guests had the opportunity to taste a variety of wines, spirits and craft beers under the theme ‘Drink Black’. Some of the other featured brands were Ebony Wines from Congolese origin. The Kinshasa champagne label named after the Capitol of the DRC was a hit. Random Whine, Red Hazel Whiskey and Schaffer Luxury wine were all well received by the public. Special mention was made of Black Vibe Vodka and Indigenous Gin. The Asante Festival will be featured on Food & Lifestyle TV on ROKU.

Stylish garden party held in Delaware

Dressed for the occasion in a beautiful garden setting, SA women were celebrated for their strength and resilience. A large group of South African women gathered in Delaware, Philadelphia and New Jersey and celebrated South African Women’s Day with a glamorous garden party. The outfits were gorgeous, and the food was great. Most importantly, the women honoured the sacrifices made by South African women and contributed generously towards the Angel Wings Foundation in South Africa.

Tannie’s tea was sponsored by SACCUSA as part of its commitment to empowering women. The tea was hosted by Mary Jane Ward and convenor Kobie Cloete Pretorius thanked everyone who contributed to the ZABRA project. Used bras were collected to be distributed to less fortunate women in South Africa.
