SACCUSA was recently invited by the New York Consul General to participate with South African business leaders in the city to discuss the establishment of a New York based US/South Africa Business Advisory Council. This initiative by Consul General Motumisi Tawana enjoyed support from the many South Africans working on Wall Street.

SACCUSA presented its proposal for the establishment to the meeting as it is believed that the council could provide a critical link between US business and the South African Consulate in New York and actively facilitate the expansion of business, trade, and investment. SACCUSA believes the council could be a unifying force and bring together businesses ranging from individual entrepreneurs to large corporations across all sectors of the economy. The council could further advance the interests of South Africa through contacts and interaction with business leaders, government agencies, trade associations and leading international trade organisations. The Council will be well positioned to provide information, while promoting investment in South Africa.

The famous Ron Kunene from Broadway’s The Lion King was also present at the council meeting. Ron Kunene and Lebo M brought this masterpiece to New York 25 years ago and it is still a roaring success. Ron is an inspirational South African who studied at UCLA. He is an executive producer, actor and educator on African and world history, musicology, Afrocentricity, and cosmo-centricity. There are such amazing South Africans in the USA contributing in such dynamic ways to the success of this society. Neil said it was exhilarating to meet Ron.
