The weather was perfect, the treats were delicious and the kuier was outstanding! The July Tannie’s Tea, held at the home of Cornelia Vance in Hendersonville, was well supported and there were even South African favourites like biltong and boerewors for sale. The Women’s Month event was held on August 24 at Mary-Jane Ward’s house. It was a special celebration of women and formed part of a series of celebratory events sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce in the USA (SACCUSA).
The event’s coverage can be viewed on SACCUSA’s pages. If you are not familiar with the Tannie’s Tea, Kobie Pretorius, the founder member, explains: “The South African ladies in the middle Tennessee area have been drinking tea on a monthly basis for more than two decades. Some tannies come every month, others show up once a year or once in a blue moon!
Some tannies work and can only join while on lunch break. For this reason, I schedule the teas to be in different parts of the city – so check to see if the tea is in your area, and join us – even if you can just come for 30 minutes. We’d love to meet you!”
