Saffas celebrate their heritage

14 Nov 21 | Social

On the occasion of Heritage Day, let us promise ourselves that we will do our bit to preserve our heritage. This year Saffas in the USA illustrated how much they are still connected to their South African roots by showing up at various events held across the country.

Georgia

In Sandy Springs, the efforts of Nico du Plessis were fruitful and a fair group of Saffas united for their braai.

North California

The organisers of the ‘great braai’ event of the Bay Area South African Club in North California pulled out all the stops and held a fantastic heritage celebration which was a true family affair. This group was founded by Mano G. Thanos and the event has become a highlight on the Saffa social calendar. The organisers, both Manos and Charmaine Bramwell Bridgens, were happy to welcome the many Saffas who joined them.

Nashville

In Tennessee, under the watchful eye of Kobie Pretorius, Saffas united at a braai day event to celebrate the diversity and heritage of their countrymen. The hosts, Bill and Lynne Siesser, made a huge contribution and an incredible spread of salads, sides and desserts were served.

Austin

The Texas Bazaar organised by Louis Cloete and Candice Naidoo was a gigantic success. It was the first occasion of its sort in Austin and the great marketing effort preceding the bazaar paid off. There was a variety of wines on sale, and it turned out to be an epic kuier.

Kansas City

Kansas City Saffas celebrated their roots with a great Sunday South African picnic in October. The event was organised by Daleen Loest and supported by South Africans who drove from all over to attend the event. Newcomers received a special welcome from the KC Saffas. The highlight was the traditional braai and ‘kuier’! Anyone interested in joining them, can reach out to Daleen Loest.
