Whatever the question the answer is wine

Ask not what wine has done for you but rather what you are willing to do for some wine. South Africa is one of the world’s finest wine producers and Saffas just love a regular glass of wine. Let’s explore some of the fine wines available to you.

David Frost a golfing legend and a wine connoisseur

Unlike many athletes or celebrities who lend their name to a brand, David Frost and his family have been in the wine business in South Africa for over
60 years. His father’s vineyard was the first place he hit golf balls, and the pocket money he made from picking grapes funded his first set of clubs and an ongoing supply of balls. In 1994, the tradition of vineyards in the family continued when David bought a 300-acre vineyard in the Paarl wine region where he produced his first 3 000 cases.

Grand Slam Shiraz

This is a medium-bodied wine with ripe red fruit aromas and hints of violet followed by a smooth palate of ripe plum, cassis, and pepper. It boats well integrated tannins on the finish. The wine received accolades at the TEXSOM International Wine Awards where it received an award of excellence for under $18 Shiraz.

Grand Slam Sauvignon Blanc 2019

White and pink floral tones of clover and sweet pea waft from the glass on first nosing, with supporting tones of white pear, melon rind and green apple. Gooseberry and pineapple flavours unfold on the palate, framed by ample acidity that results in a short yet clean finish.

Cool wine available in ‘the Goose’ collection

Another golfing legend whose wines are available in the USA, is Retief Goosen’s ‘The Goose Wines’. Goosen is often called “The Goose” in the world of golf. Goosen currently stands on 24 international victories, 7 PGA TOUR victories and 3 additional victories. Fittingly, the wines that carry his name are also produced in one of the coolest regions in the Western Cape with the Indian Ocean lurking only 24 kilometres to the South. These extreme climatic conditions ensure complexity of fruit and unique grapes that are hand-crafted into world-class wines.

Expression

An amalgam of berries, spice and wood integration and trademark herbaceous character and white pepper support. A very soft wine on the palate, yet full bodied with huge complexity. Designed to mature 10 years
after vintage. The Expression will partner any heavy, rich meat dish to perfection. Think Oxtail, stews, beef, steak or even game and venison.

Sauvignon Blanc

The Goose Sauvignon Blanc is and exciting and unique tasting experience with tropical fruit flavors of guava on the nose. The wine lingers beautifully on the palate, with a complexity that showcases a typical cool-climate minerality with balanced acidity.

The iconic Eikendal Classique 2015

The wine is subtly rich and powerful with full perfume flavours of blue and black fruits, earthiness and Cellar Master Nico Grobler’s signature freshness. It showcases a tightly woven, long and linear structure with fresh tannins.

Jess rosé 2019: tribute to a daughter

The playfully pink Jess rosé has a delicious bouquet and over deliver on quality. Light bodied and bursting with aromas, this wine is characterised by its crisp style and fruity palate. The wine was named after the owner’s eldest daughter, Jessica-Lee on her 16th birthday.

Eikendal The Janina 2018: unwooded chardonnay

This wine has delightful notes of citrus, orange blossoms and faint hints of papaya on the nose. On the palate fresh flavours of green apple, honey and lemon develop in perfect harmony for a flinty and lingering finish.
