The Nashville tannies gathering in August was held at the home of Nanette O’Grady, also known as The Southern Protea. Organiser Kobie Pretorius says attending a Tannies Tea at Nanette’s home is a special treat, since she is an outstanding baker. “Not only is her own creation, a Rooibos cake, an award-winning delight, but she takes it further by serving rusks, coconut ice, sausage rolls and other traditional treats from her Southern Protea bake shop,” says Kobie. As always, they welcomed a range of tannies with a highlight being the arrival of the fabulous Estelle Sacks who recently turned 89. Several new moms brought their babies for some extra attention while catching up with old friends, meeting new arrivals and making connections. “We are always surprised at just how small the world really is,” says Kobie.
Dragon boat race fun!
It has become a tradition for Friends of South Africa (FoSA) Nashville to compete in the city’s annual Cumberland River Dragon boat races. This year FoSA entered two boats, The Vuvuzela Sharks and the Vuvuzela Sparks, with a total of 40 paddlers and two drummers dressed in our best zebra attire.
