Update to the H-2A program – SACCUSA is forging a partnership with MEC Tasneem Motara and the Gauteng Department of Economic Development to diversify and expand the H-2A program by increasing the number of temporary agricultural workers from South Africa through targeted interventions.

MEC Tasneem Motara is spearheading this initiative in Gauteng by facilitating collaboration between SACCUSA and the Gauteng Education and Agriculture departments.

This multi-departmental approach ensures a well-rounded strategy to enhance the H-2A program, opening doors for more diverse South African workers to participate. The US Consul General in Johannesburg, Vincent Sperra, has expressed support for this endeavour, recognizing its potential to strengthen economic ties between the United States and South Africa.

To kickstart this initiative, a follow-up meeting is scheduled for October to discuss a detailed action plan. This meeting will pave the way for the implementation of strategies that will transform the H-2A program. In addition to these efforts, SACCUSA has compiled a comprehensive guide for H-2A workers.

This guide will serve as a valuable resource, helping workers navigate the intricacies and challenges of employment in the United States under the H-2A program. It underscores SACCUSA’s commitment to not only facilitating the program but also ensuring the welfare and success of South African workers participating in it.

The collaboration between SACCUSA, MEC Tasneem Motara, and the Gauteng Department of Economic Development signifies a significant step forward in diversifying and expanding the H-2A program. SACCUSA’s commitment to providing essential resources for H-2A workers reflects its dedication to South African temporary workers and their well-being and success on American soil.
