Rooibos

SA’s favourite tea has just received the European Union’s Protected Designation of Origin status. This means that rooibos tea, produced in the Cedarberg area of the Western Cape, will be able to use a special stamp on their packaging which indicates to consumers in Europe that it is originally grown in this area. The tea is internationally recognised for its health benefits. Rooibos’ new status will protect its historic background and that of the communities who have farmed the tea for generations.

Biltong and droëwors

Biltong was first created by the indigenous people of South Africa over 400 years ago. The word biltong, however, is derived from the Dutch words “bil” (meat or rump) and “tong” (strip), so it essentially means strip of beef. South Africans love their biltong and droëwors and while you may live in the USA, there are plenty of stockists to buy from.
